Dean is the author of both editions of The Lakeside and Marblehead Railroad, a book revealing the history of a successful seven-mile-long limestone line on Ohio’s picturesque Marblehead Peninsula.
He is also publisher of the reprinted versions of The Toledo, Port Clinton and Lakeside Railway, and The Great Lakes Car Ferries, by noted American transportation historian George Woodman Hilton.
In 2023, he authored the prologue and first three chapters of Lakeside Ohio: From Camp Meeting to Chautauqua, published in commemoration of the sesquicentennial of this community, while also holding responsibility for editing, layout and printing.
In 2024, he edited, expanded, and published (for the Lakeside Heritage Society), Dr. George McCormick’s book Hotel Lakeside: 150 Years of Hospitality, about the sesquicentennial of Hotel Lakeside (Ohio).
He splits his time between Washington, D. C. and northern Ohio.
